I don’t follow pop culture, I just kind of stumble upon it from time to time. At some point last week, People Magazine announced John Legend as the Sexiest Man Alive for 2019. I know this because a number of people were debating John Legend’s sexiness on Facebook.

Ignoring all definitions that include a form of the word, I finally settled on one from Merriam-Webster which defines sexy as “generally attractive or interesting.” Given the most basic definition, I’d say John makes the cut but there are people staunchly opposed.

I found this meme to be both hilarious and true.

If we’re being honest, John Legend isn’t the most obviously sexy entertainer in the business. He sings, he plays piano and he minds his business. He isn’t associated with any scandals and he appears to be a well-rounded guy. After reading People’s article, it reminded me of Smart Guy; I felt like Tahj Mowry’s character definitely could have grown into John Legend.

He’s smart! He was two years younger than most of his classmates because he is intellectually gifted.

He went to college at 16 and sang in an acapella group.

He’s a self-proclaimed nerd who likes to do crossword puzzles.

With the exception of him bagging a supermodel, he is just ordinary people and

Ordinary people are sexy too!

As with anything that is subjective in nature, people will fall on different sides of the debate. I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying, “nice guys finish last.” I think the opposition likes bad boys and that’s why they can’t get behind John.

I wouldn’t have known that John had a body if Chrissy hadn’t shared tasteful, yet naked photos of him. Recognizing that John doesn’t exude the confidence of others or flaunt anything, I’m still not blind. I go for nice but I will still acknowledge my attraction to a man with an edge.

All in all, let that man live; he just made history!

He is the first to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony and Sexiest Man Alive (EGOTSMA).

Being a judge on the voice must be a pre-requisite because a few of the other ordinary judges were awarded SMA in recent years.
